I decided to limit this first article about types of Chinese tea health benefits, the different classes of Chinese tea, benefits, Kosher tea, , and where you can find them. This post will be the first in a series of follow-up posts delving deeper into this subject. Tea was first discovered and drunk in China. As the hometown of tea, China owns a deep tea culture from ancient times. The different classes (types) of Chinese Tea
Chinese tea can be classified in many ways, such as quality, producing area, growth environment, and processing method. Here we talk about is the most common classification of Chinese tea: basic tea and reprocessing tea. The basic tea, mostly divided into 6 major types, is according to the degree of fermentation (oxidation) which is directly reflected in the color of tea. The reprocessing tea is the tea reprocessed from basic tea, which includes flower tea like jasmine tea, compressed tea, liquid tea, instant tea and herbal tea.
Chinese Green Tea
Green tea is the most popular type for Chinese tea health benefits made by taking new leaves or buds of the tea tree to go through three main processes, frying, kneading, and drying. Processed green tea leaves appear to be slim, tight, and dark green, curled like a snail, and covered by pekoe. The tea soup is clear and green. Chinese Oolong Tea
Oolong tea is semi-fermented (or semi-oxidized) and, in this sense, stands between green and black tea. The leaves of oolong tea are usually green on the middle and become red at the edge. The change on the leaves’ color is caused by the fact that this tea is fried, rolled, and roasted. It has the fresh fragrance of green tea and the mellow taste of black tea. Even after 7 times steeping, you can also smell its fragrant flavor. The medical function of oolong includes decomposing fat, reducing weight, and building body shape, so it also is called “cosmetic tea” in Japan.
Even if its taste is pretty mild, you shouldn’t drink too much oolong tea because it’s stronger than it seems!

Chinese Black Tea
Black tea, called red tea in Chinese, is the 2nd main trending type for Chinese tea health benefits. It is a fully fermented tea, which gives it a stronger flavor. People can get the refined one through a series of technological processes, such as withering, kneading, fermentation, drying, and so on. The dry black leaves are dark but the tea soup is red. Black tea can help us in gastrointestinal digestion, promoting appetite, eliminating edema, and strengthening heart function.
It has a stronger flavor and, generally speaking, contains more caffeine than any other class of tea.
While green tea loses its flavor within a year, the flavor of the black tea can last several years. This is the main reason for which it has been traded to Europe for centuries.

Chinese White Tea
White tea, belonging to the micro-fermented types of Chinese tea, is a traditional famous tea. Different from other types mentioned above, white tea is made only by drying by the sun or gentle frying without the process of kneading. The dry tea leaf is slim in shape and green in color, covered by the white fuzz. The white color comes from the hairs on the unopened buds of the tea plant. The tea soup is light green. The Chinese tea health benefits include a refreshing mind, cooling body, and remising fever.
White Chinese tea undergoes a similar process to green tea. Since it retains its anti-oxidation properties it’s considered one of the healthiest varieties of tea.
Even if the tradition of white tea production is very old, this variety is quite rare, and in the past only the emperor and his crew could enjoy it.
Famous white tea: Baihao Yinzhen, Baimudan, Gongmei
Chinese Yellow Tea
The making process of yellow tea has something in common with green tea, except for the key point that makes a real yellow tea, oxidizing before or after the drying to give it a yellow appearance. Yellow tea began to be bred almost 2,000 years ago in Sichuan, a southeast province in China. Spleen and stomach can be two beneficiaries if you develop the habit to drink yellow tea regularly; the risk to get ingestion, loss of appetite, and obesity will get lower.
The process to obtain the yellow tea is similar to the one used for the green and the white tea. The difference lies in the fact that the tea leaves are let drying for a longer time so that they become yellow. It’s a slightly oxidized tea. According to some experts, yellow tea may be more beneficial than green tea.
Famous yellow tea: Mengding Mountain Huangya, Jun Mountain Yinzhen
Chinese Flower Tea
This variety of tea may be subdivided into flower and scented tea. Flower tea only involves dried flowers such as chrysanthemum, hibiscus, jasmine, lily and globe amaranth. Scented tea consists of a bundle of tea leaves wrapped around one or more dried flowers.
Dark Tea: a/k/a Pu’er Tea (also spelled as Pu-erh)
Famous dark tea: Yunnan Pu’er, Guangxi Liubao Dark tea is also a type of fermented tea, named so because the appearance of the processed tea is black. Dark tea is not widely known as other types of Chinese tea, but it is the material to make compressed tea like brick tea. Dark tea earns the reputation for its amazing nutritional ingredients, such as Protein, amino acids, and sugar substances, which can help you promote digestion and resist oxidation of the skin.
The pu’er tea is a variety of oxidized and fermented tea produced in Yunnan province. The leaves undergo fermentation after being dried and rolled. The pu’er tea is pressed and sold in confections that remember a bun or a small cake.
This variety of tea should be stored at contact with the air so that the fermentation process can continue. As for good wine, the value of pu’er tea goes up with the time.
Even if it’s often classified as a black tea, being so characteristic pu’er deserves a category on its own.
Note that the difference between “oxidation” and “fermentation” is that, while the oxidation is a spontaneous chemical reaction, the fermentation is catalyzed by microorganisms.

IMHO: My preference is to buy from regular merchants whenever possible rather than the big box stores like Amazon, Walmart, etc. We need these smaller, reliable merchants to make a living too and supporting the local economy. If they are eliminated, you will find that, without the competition of Amazon, Walmart, etc., the biggees will then be able to make the prices whatever they want and you will lose out in the long run. These smaller firms normally will provide you with most all the support you need, unlike trying to find a knowledgeable salesperson in Amazon or Walmart who knows much about the product you want except where it might be located in the store and nothing else about it.
